Melissa began her athletic career at age 11 with an impressive list of achievements and titles at Junior, National and World Championship levels. (Refer to Appendix One for full list of sporting achievements). The height of her success came in winning a Silver Medal in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games 3000 metre Steeplechase, recording the second fastest time in Commonwealth Games history.

In April, 2010 Melissa once again dominated the field at the Australian Championships to claim her 5th Open 3000m steeplechase crown. After injury derailed Melissa’s bid for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, as result of enjoying cross-training on the bike, she made the decision to change focus from running to triathlon. Melissa enjoyed a stunning start to her triathlon career with numerous wins and a handful of course records within the space of a few months.

In 2011 she made a full-time, dedicated switch to triathlon and went on to be undefeated in her first full year in the sport. In the process she again broke several course records and won many major 70.3 races around the world including the World Championships, the 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships and the shorter Olympic distance Noosa Triathlon. Melissa’s 2011 season was capped by her being awarded the Triathlon Australia Elite Female Triathlete of the year.2012 brought continues success with a further 9 podium finishes,5 wins,3 more course records and the Australian 70.3 champion title. The 2012 season was however soured by a 4th place finish at the IM 70.3 World Championships dues to illness the week before the race. Melissa came back from this set-back to finish the year with a series of wins in Augusta, Mandurah and Phuket

2013 has also started with more wins, So far Melissa claimed the Australian Long Course Championship, the prestigious Abu Dhabi International Triathlon the Koh Samui Triathlon and most recently the ITU World Lounge Course Championship.
